Business News- Japan blocks tyson imports- reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Tyson Foods Inc. said Sunday that Japan had blocked beef shipments from one of its plants because they did not comply with safety standards designed to guard against mad cow disease.

Tyson said it had inadvertently included in a shipment to Japan a box containing spinal bones, which are prohibited under a trade agreement.

Tyson plans to work with the U.S. Agriculture Department to investigate the cause of the mix-up at its Lexington, Nebraska beef plant, spokesman Gary Mickelson said.

Wasserstein’s condition is serious, but he is stable and recovering, Lazard said, adding that it will not be providing updates at this time

Iran’s Khatami says vote protests will not die

TEHRAN — Reformist former president Mohammad Khatami has said the protests which followed Iran’s disputed presidential election will carry on, his Baran foundation website reported on Sunday.

“If we go along with people’s demand, we will reach our goals quicker and in a less costly manner,” Khatami was quoted as telling people from his hometown in the central province of Yazd.

“But if not, this (protest) movement will continue but costlier. In any case this movement will not die.”

Hundreds of thousands of Iranians poured onto the streets of Tehran in protest to claim fraud in the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in June 12 vote.

Khatami, who was president from 1997 to 2005, joined forces with the opposition movement led by moderate former premier Mir Hossein Mousavi and reformist cleric Mehdi Karroubi.

World News- Clinton Pressures Iran to act now before Israel does- Aust Broad Co

TONY EASTLEY: The US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton has warned Iran that the world will not wait indefinitely for the country to meet its obligations on its disputed nuclear program. She was speaking in London where she and her British counterpart discussed their commitment to Afghanistan.

Mrs Clinton is on a five-day tour of Europe which will also take her to Belfast where she wants to pursue Northern Ireland peace talks.

Europe correspondent Emma Alberici reports.

EMMA ALBERICI: The US Secretary of State’s tour of Europe comes more than a week after Iranian diplomats and representatives of Russia, China, France, Britain, America and Germany met in Geneva in an effort to resolve the nuclear issue. A former Israeli Government official warned the group that if no sanctions are introduced by Christmas, Israel will strike.

BELFAST, Northern Ireland — U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday the Taliban siege of Pakistan’s army headquarters showed extremists are a growing threat in the nuclear-armed American ally, but she contended they don’t pose a risk to the country’s atomic arsenal.

Clinton, in London on the second leg of a five-day tour of Europe and Russia, also joined British Foreign Secretary David Miliband in warning Iran that they would not wait long for the Islamic republic to convince the world that its nuclear intentions are peaceful.

Before stops in Ireland and Northern Ireland, Clinton pledged continued U.S. support for the Northern Irish peace process and said those who continued to exacerbate tension and violence “are out of step and out of time.”
